Darlene Allen, 84, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 23, 2024, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, with her loving family by her side. She was born on May 29, 1940, in Wabash County, Illinois, the daughter of Ben and Celia (Dossett) Bump. She married Thomas P. Allen on October 31, 1959, and they celebrated sixty years of marriage until his passing on March 16, 2020.
In her early working years, Darlene was a supervisor at the Mount Carmel Apparel clothing factory for fifteen years. She and her husband, Tom, owned and operated Bumps L.P. Gas, acquiring that business when Darlene's father retired. Darlene later opened a day-care center in her home and continued it for twenty-nine years. She was affectionately known as "Grandma Darlene" by her day care kids and enjoyed keeping up with them even into adulthood.
